To help prevent a back injury when golfing or when recovering from an injury, it is important to warm up before heading to the first tee and taking a full swing.
Below is a quick warm-up routine that will help you loosen up.
- Arrive at the course early enough to have at least 5 minutes at the practice tee.
- Take a short iron, hold it in one hand and swing it back and forth, just brushing the grass. Don’t stay flat footed, let your heels come up alternately as you swing. Do this for 20 – 30 seconds and then repeat with the other hand.
- Next, grip the iron with both hands and swing it back and forth, again, just brushing the grass and letting your heels come up alternately as you swing. Continue for 20 – 30 seconds.
- Next, stand at address with no ball in front of you and take a full but gentle swing. Repeat 5 – 10 times.
- You are now ready to put down a ball and hit 5 – 10 gentle shots before heading to the first tee.
You should now be sufficiently warmed up for a full swing with your driver. If you have your own favourite stretching exercises that you do, they can be incorporated, but if you do not have time, this routine will help loosen you up before you grip it and rip it!
